The Most Boring Thing Ever

I’ve been having discussions lately regarding identification of the single most boring annual event in the United States. Here are the front-runners as I see them (in no particular order):

• The speech parts of the State of the Union address (to be distinguished from the ovating/not-ovating parts, which are always kind of hilarious)
• The third quarter of the Super Bowl – always a blow-out and always post-hoopla
• The presentation of honorary Oscars (with the Montage of Dead People being a close second)
• The third game of the World Series
• Graduation ceremonies – yes, all of them

That’s all I’ve got so far. Suggestions are welcome.

Here's some additions/thoughts:

1) The Democratic/Republican response to the state of the union. No matter which party is in the minority, it always sounds like whining.

2) The Grammy awards. Seriously, who watches these anymore.

3) I'm announcing that the Super Bowl halftime show is "on deck". Seriously, not since the U2 show has it been worth not flipping over to Animal Planet to watch puppies and kittens play with toys. Damn you Janet Jackson!

Puppy Bowl with Kitten Halftime! I enjoyed that mightily yesterday pre-game. I loved the 'big finale' of the halftime show where they pumped up the music and sped up the disco ball and dumped confetti on the very confused kittens.

And yes, that was much more entertaining than the creaky Rolling Stones, who seemed to be suffering from some poor sound work.

I'm feeling you on the halftime show, Mr. Grrr. Although I physically fell asleep during the third quarter. While at a party and eating a cupcake.

I would vote for "graduation ceremonies." Especially if they are held in a sweltering gym. Big yawn on that one!
